Quick answer
If the handle won't lift, it's usually misalignment or a failing gearbox. If the handle lifts but the key won't turn, it's often the cylinder or gearbox.
Handle won't lift
Try lifting while pushing the door hard against the seals. If it works, the door has dropped or the keeps need adjusting. If not, the mechanism may have failed.
Key won't turn after lifting
Often a worn cylinder or a gearbox that hasn't fully thrown the locking points.
Don't force it
Forcing the handle can snap the gearbox and leave the door stuck locked. Call a locksmith instead.
