Yale & Nightlatch Locks
The rim nightlatch, often called a Yale lock, is fitted to many UK front doors. Basic nightlatches can be slipped open easily. We fit British Standard deadlocking nightlatches that resist this.

Nightlatch problems
- The door can be opened with a card or slipped
- The latch sticks or won't hold back
- The key is stiff or lost
- Your insurer requires a British Standard nightlatch
How we solve it
Your locksmith will repair or replace the latch with a suitable model. Often that's a BS3621 deadlocking nightlatch, with a mortice deadlock added where extra security is needed.
How your locksmith helps
- Step 1
Assess
The latch, cylinder and door are checked.
- Step 2
Replace or upgrade
A suitable nightlatch is fitted.
- Step 3
Test
The deadlocking and key operation are tested.

Yale & Nightlatch Locks: common questions
Is a Yale lock enough on my front door?
A basic nightlatch on its own usually isn't. Most insurers ask for a British Standard nightlatch or a BS3621 mortice deadlock as well.
